Wax removal procedures
Micro-Suctioning
Earwax is gently removed by a qualified professional using microsuction, a technique that uses controlled suction to remove wax from the ear canal. It is a safe and effective alternative to traditional ear syringing.
Irrigation / Syringing
Ear irrigation uses warm water or saline to gently flush softened earwax from the ear canal. The procedure is performed by a qualified professional when appropriate.
Cerumenolytics
Wax-softening drops, available from your local pharmacy, can help soften earwax before your appointment. We recommend using them for 2 days before your wax removal appointment.
If you are unsure whether ear drops are suitable for you, please check with your GP or pharmacist before use.
Mechanical
Earwax can also be removed manually using specialised instruments, such as forceps, a curette or a hook, when appropriate.
Combination
of all these methods
**In some cases, referral to an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist may be recommended.
All reusable instruments are cleaned and reprocessed in accordance with current infection control guidelines.
